Energy Island AR is an iPad-based augmented reality exhibit created for GE’s corporate showroom under contract with National Geographic. It provides a unique and informative experience for GE’s partners, clients and other corporate visitors using complimentary iPads that are handed out during their tour. When the iPads are aimed at the symbols on the island, interactive 3D models of GE’s SmartGrid technologies spring to life on the iPad screen, as if the users were viewing them sitting on the island through a clear pane of glass. In addition to the app, Digital Steamworks was responsible for designing, fabricating and installing the exhibit, including the 22’ island model and a high definition projector for displaying ambient animations that make the island feel alive.
